School Councils

At Mere Green we have four active councils that help shape facets of our school life. We have Pupil Voice, Eco Council, Digital Leaders and Sports Council. On top of that, we also elect two Mere Green Ambassadors yearly from Year 6; these students represent our school in a multitude of ways.

Each council’s overriding aim is to make a difference to the school community and through regular meetings and action planning, we find ways for

At school, we prioritise the teaching of British Values and find a variety of ways to demonstrate these within learning experiences. Whilst children learn about democracy within their PSHE and citizenship curriculum, the process of standing for a position and voting for candidates, helps teach our children more authentically about the democratic process.

Each council’s overriding aim is to make a difference to the school community; this also provides opportunities for children to promote our school values of thrive, contribute and mental strength. Children also develop a range of soft skills through standing for a role; skills such as communication, independence, resilience and creativity.

We also believe that student councils are a great way for students to take on leadership roles, promote the voice of the student body, problem solve and impact their community. All our councils serve as the voice of our school (in their chosen area) and actively work with teachers and advisors to promote a better learning environment and make a happier and safer school.
